What is a blast?

Local businesses send out blasts to connect with everyone in town. The blast format is simple: a great image, a short headline, and clear details.

Why send a blast?

Use them to share the latest news or updates for your business. Call attention to an exciting sale or deal. Let the community know when you have an upcoming event. The blast is flexible for anything you want your customers to see.

How is this different from social media?  

People don’t use Facebook to discover or find local businesses. They use Facebook to connect with friends and family. Anything else is getting in the way for them. 

But my customers Like and follow me.

Sure, but realize that only 2-5% of your followers will typically see your posts. There are just too many posts on social media meaning everyone’s organic reach (number of people who see your posts) keeps dropping every year.

So Facebook and Instagram decide which of your posts are shown and to whom while also encouraging you to advertise instead. It’s a great business model for them, but ads are what users are trying to scroll past. Don’t be an ad.

So a blast is like a Facebook post?

You’ll probably recognize the similarities but there are differences. We don’t think you need to post nearly as much as they prescribe on social media. This isn't a contest. You don’t need to post many times a day to keep your followers “engaged." People use HeyNearby to follow their favorite local businesses and discover what's new in town. They use social media to check out friends' selfies, vacation photos, and cat videos. 

Community blast or Follower blast?

Blasts always have the same format, but you can choose WHO sees your blast. If it’s something you want the whole world to see, then you create a Community blast. But sometimes you want to share something just with your followers. Maybe you want to try a flash sale or insider deal for your most loyal customers. Then you would just click “Send to Followers” and you’ve created a Followers blast. You can always send an unlimited number of follower blasts.


Invite

Who can I invite?

You can invite customers and friends with whom you can connect and share favorites. You can also earn rewards by inviting local businesses that would benefit by being on HeyNearby (and let’s be serious...everyone should be on HeyNearby). You just need to know a phone number or email to invite them.

How do I invite users/customers?

For customers, just go to the Friends page in the mobile app and tap the + icon. It’s easiest to invite by text message. When your friend signs up, you should be automatically connected.
For Merchants, go to the Invite button in the merchant web app. You can upload your customers’ emails by CSV file (link) and invite all of them in one step. Or just invite individually by email. The great thing is that when they sign up via invite, you will automatically be favorited by them.

How do I invite merchants and earn rewards?

If you’re a merchant, you can go to the Invite tab while logged into your business account to invite fellow merchants. For every referral that signs up for a paid plan, you’ll earn credit for one free month. You’ll also earn fun HeyNearby merchandise at key milestones.
If you’re a customer, you can also earn fun HeyNearby gear by referring businesses that you know. Go to our website and tap on the Referrals link at the bottom of any page.

How do I upload my business logo?
Upload your own logo as a square image. If you don’t have a logo, you can always choose an image from Unsplash to use as your own.

Business Address:
You can edit your address once you’ve verified your business. Edit your business address (no p.o. boxes). If you don’t have one, you can check the box “No physical location” and customers will simply see “Serving (the city you list).”

Business Phone:
You can edit once you’ve verified your business. For verification, we will call the business phone number listed by Google.

Website:
Include your website or another relevant link if you’d like (I.e. Facebook Page, Shopify store, or other).

Business hours:
Let customers know when you’re open. You can indicate if you close in the middle of the day. Be sure to check the days you’re closed.

About Us:
Tell everyone what you do and why you’re special. A sentence or two will do.

Keywords:
Keywords help people find you! Think about what terms they use to search for you: your category, your specialties, your brands and offerings. You don’t have to include your name as that’s always included in searches.

Verify my business:
We hate extra steps but just this once, we call your listed business phone to make sure there are no bad actors claiming to be you. When you tap the “ Call now” button, we’ll place an automated call to your business and give you a 4-digit code to enter here. Make sure you or a colleague can answer the phone to receive the code. If you’re not at work, you can save your profile and perform the verification step when convenient.

  • Once you start, you’ll soon figure out if it makes sense to send out more blasts. That's where our Premium Plan comes in. For $49 per month, you get 5 community blasts per month. And yes, unlimited follower blasts. 
     

  • Some businesses have more to say than others. More events, more products, more deals. We’ve got a 10-blast Pro Plan for those businesses. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Just start with one of the above and you can always upgrade at any time.

Search

How does our search work?

Customers can search Blasts or merchants by keyword in the app. For example, if a customer is searching for the keyword "sushi", the results will pull up any Blasts that mention the word, as well as any merchants who have added the keyword.

Why is favoriting so important?

When a customer favorites a merchant, a direct connection is established. If a customer has favorited you, it means that they will instantly receive every Blast you send out. Additionally, users can see the business their friends have favorited.

How do I get customers to favorite me?

Putting out awesome Blasts is a great way to get new favorites. Also, whenever you invite a customer to join HeyNearby, you will automatically be added to their favorites!vity through ads.

What is the HeyNearby "Town Feed?"

The Town feed displays the activity of customers in your town. Users can see which Blasts other people in their town have pinned, which merchants their friends have favorited or given Kudos to and much more.
